Today was Richard’s last day with us. Richard is going through the paces learning to be a teacher. We were fortunate enough to have Richard with us in the afternoons on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays for months and months and months. Richard was a great influence both academically and socially in our room, and I know he was treasured by us all.

Here is Richard opening up the card we got him along with a gift certificate to Durango’s Mexican Restaurant in Oshkosh.

Happy Last Day of School to You!

As we were reading How to Eat Fried Worms today we got some great recipes. thought I would share one with all of you. Do not try this at home.

Wizbang Worm Delight

• 1 Silver Dish
• 1 Ice Cream Cake
• 6 oz Assorted Fruit Syrups (recommended: peach, cherry, tutti-fruitti, and candied orange)
• 6 oz Whipped Cream
• 2 oz Jelly Beans
• 1 oz Slivered Almonds
• 1 Huge Dead and Boiled Worm

Directions: Buy your favorite flavor of ice cream cake and place it on a silver tray. Use an ice pick to carve a hole in the center of the ice cream cake. Carefully place work in the hole you made in the center of the ice cream cake. Cover cake with generous servings of whipped cream. Top the whipped cream with the jelly beans and slivered almonds. Pour assorted fruit syrups over the entire cake. Enjoy your Wizbang Worm Delight and win your 50 bucks!

Today in science we labeled many of the bones in the human body with their real names. We also continued our end of the year practice of regrouping in subtraction. Again, we are solving each of these problems in three different ways. We solve them using symbolic blocks, expanded form, and using the standard algorithm.

No homework tonight. We will finish up our math tomorrow!

We began a new exercise practicing our subtraction regrouping. We are working on 30 problems being solved in 3 different ways for the next few days.

Today we had the great opportunity to see the Sabish African Drumming group. This is a yearly tradition that is quite a joy to get to see.

For tomorrow all students need to have finished their 15 addition problems with regrouping. We had to solve each of these problems using three different methods: symbolic block method, expanded form, and using standard algorithm. All students are also to finish their final drafts of their Take on Me stories for sharing tomorrow.

That’s right! We got the great opportunity to see all of this and more today in science. A very sincere and special thanks goes out to Joe’s mom who is an x-ray tech. She brought in a collection of wonderfully disgusting and interesting x-rays.See the pictures below:

This week we are talking about our spine and some of our major joints. We are looking forward to Joe’s bringing in her x-rays on Wednesday. I cannot wait to see them!

This week we are reading How to Eat Fried Worms as a class and doing vocabulary work together as a class. We are also finishing up our rough and final drafts of our writing project by the end of the week.
